"When you meet someone like Dean... you know your dog is in good hands."
--Christine Martin, Oasis Sanctuary

"Somehow, the term 'dog trainer' doesn't accurately describe Dean... he is more of a 'dog behaviorist' than anything else."
--Russ Heyman, Client

"The old adage, 'You can't teach an old dog new tricks,' is not really true. Just ask Dean Scharf, known to many as the Dean of Dogs."
--The Towne Crier, Newspaper

"We loved Dean's training techniques and I actually had Juney in a sit-stay when one of the cats tried to sneak by... She was only about three feet away from the cat and she stayed put!"

Dog Training by the Dean of Dogs
Dog Mountain Lodge offers several dog training options including private training sessions and board and train obedience bootcamp.

Private Training Classes
(for dogs 12 weeks and older)
$50 for a one-hour session

In private sessions I teach your dog basic obedience behaviors (i.e., come, sit, down, sit-stay, down-stay, loose leash walking, heel, leave it, drop it) and a few games most dogs love to play. I also teach you how to continue training your dog at home.

I can help you with behavioral problems, like house soiling, jumping, digging, hyperactivity, stool eating, aggression, barking, and possessiveness.

Private dog training sessions are one hour long. Sessions are customized to focus on the training and or behavior problems you want to address. You can take one session or as many as you want. Four sessions are usually enough to teach the basics and for you to see progress. Call to discuss your training goals and to make an appointment.

Obedience Boot Camp - Board and Train
(for the dog that's too hard to train at home)
$75 per day, includes boarding

Some dogs just need more than a once a week class to learn. These dogs need daily attention from a professional trainer. Boarding combined with training can succeed with these hard-to-train dogs, where home training has failed. Exercise, consistency, and repetition are the keys to success.

I offer a board and train bootcamp for dogs that need daily, intensive, one-on-one training. Bootcamp lasts a minimum of two weeks to be affective. Some behavior problems may require more time. Dogs are exercised and trained twice a day. They are eventually brought into the real world where they are taught obedience in public places and in the home.

A leadership transfer session is provided to you when picking up your dog. This helps to prevent old habits from resurfacing once you get home by training you how to maintain your dog's new obedience skills.

Call to discuss your dog's behavior problems, training objectives, and to enroll your dog. Some behavior problems (e.g. aggression, fear) require an on site evaluation before accepted into the obedience boot camp.

Obedience Tune-up
(an obedience training refresher course while boarding)
$50 per day, includes boarding

Even if your dog graduated obedience class with honors, your dog's training may have faded since then. If so, then it's time for a refresher course, an obedience tune-up.

This combination boarding and training is less intense version of bootcamp. It is not meant for untrained dogs or dogs with behavior problems. It is meant to improve the obedience training your dog already learned and forgot.
